Let’s face it, gym memberships are expensive these days, the gym floor is often crowded and, now that we all know what risks come with pandemics, we’ve also worked out they can be absolute germ magnets. The bike has a welded, coated steel frame, a comfortable saddle, and the flywheel is powered by magnetic resistance with an especially quiet belt drive. A particularly good option for those, perhaps, who have been spoiled by using cutting-edge gym equipment in the past. There are a wide range of immersive ‘outdoor’ rides and you can also stream from apps including Netflix, Youtube and many more.

It's more expensive but includes a ton of extras and some unique components not found on any other home gym we tested. However, Apex would be more suited to class cyclists and spin fanatics than to those looking for indoor performance training. It's hard to beat the Gonex Home Gym for the sheer number of included components and possible exercises they enable. Space Gym is a low cost high performance flywheel trainer, designed to be safe and easy to use for everyone. Between exercises, we evaluated the ease of changing and adjusting equipment to various positions and resistance levels. But the user interface isn’t quite as slick as Peloton, and the graphics and sound aren’t as good quality. Regarding safety and instruction, the Gonex and Gymwell included copious amounts of information on how to use their equipment effectively and safely. Although most use a lever and pulley system, some of the more robust units employ leverage to facilitate the workout.

Today, JML is still a family-owned and run business, with the same guiding principles of quality, value, and innovation that we had when we launched our first product, as we have now with over 2000 products sold across 50 countries, worldwide.

And while it comes with a thorough instruction booklet, we found its components to be quite intuitive to set up and use. We sweated it out, testing each one and comparing them together to help you determine which one will guide you toward your fitness goals. It has only low resistance options and far fewer add-ons and components than many others — better suited for repetition than building serious muscle. All the basics are ticked off (speed, power, heart rate and cadence) and you get custom metrics including a “Pedalling Effectiveness Score (PES)” and “Maximum Minute Power (MMP)” to work out individualised training zones. For me, yes – the main incentive to purchase an exercise bike is that it might give me the motivation to actually ride it.

It also has fewer pieces to snap on and off, further lowering potential breakable components over prolonged use. We evaluated the range of resistance these gyms have to offer, the increments at which they can be changed, and additional pieces that can expand that range. Lat pulldowns, pec decks, leg extensions, tricep/chest presses and many more can be achieved, while Marcy also throws in crunch straps for a burning abs workout. Included with all of this is a corresponding in-depth booklet full of ideas and instructions to help you tailor your workout to your goals. This kit features tons of components to maximize the number and types of movements available — it even comes with less-frequently included bits like a post landmine sleeve and an extra segment to elongate the bar for wider-stance exercises like squats.

He provided us with information that we ceetainly would not have been able to obtain had he not provided us with it. However, we're far more impressed by the Gorilla's latex bands than we are by the weaker NYPOT bands that seemed to attract every stray dog hair nearby. The 68kg weight stack provides up to 90kg of resistance and three separate pulley systems work most of the major muscle groups in the body. Sometimes, however, some extra cash will get you a significant upgrade that's worth the investment — such is the case with the Gonex. We divided our testing into four overarching metrics that, when combined, give an overall picture of each portable gym.
