About this deal

With a sweating toilet, the toilet tank is wet all around it, but a toilet that is leaking will be letting water out between the tank and the bowl, and therefore the tank will remain dry. It is, however, possible that a toilet tank will be sweating and leaking at the same time. If you were to allow water to constantly run down the cistern to the floor, damp could eventually form, leading to mould in bathrooms. If the water running down from the toilet was to penetrate your bathroom flooring, it could even lead to rotting issues with timber floor joists too. Condensation on your toilet in the winter can be an annoying and persistent problem, but there are several steps you can take to stop it. First and foremost, you should try to improve the ventilation of your bathroom. Before any boxing in is done, make sure you lag the pipes and/or place insulation inside the boxing also to help keep as much warmth in as possible. You can find out more about pipe boxing in this project.

You will need to identify what type of condensation is occurring and where it is coming from. If you notice that there is condensation only around the lid of your toilet tank, then this could be caused by humidity in the bathroom or by a leaky pipe inside the tank itself. If there is condensation all over the outside of your toilet tank, then this could be caused by cold water entering your home’s plumbing system or from a faulty flapper valve inside the tank. See the video on replacing a toilet in this project here to see how this can be done. Sponge out last of water and dry the inside of the cistern. Keeping a toilet cistern clean is an important step in preventing condensation and maintaining the overall appearance and hygiene of the bathroom. A dirty toilet cistern can contribute to high humidity levels and condensation, as well as harbouring bacteria and other harmful microorganisms.Installing air conditioning is not cheap, and if you are doing it for the sole reason of stopping a sweating toilet, then it won’t be worth it. If you, however, feel that your entire house needs air conditioning, then, by all means, go for it.

There are several types of lining that can be used to insulate a toilet cistern, some of the best include: Purchasing a tray is perhaps the easiest, fastest solution to preventing your sweating toilet from causing structural damage to your home. Once the valve is installed and in working condition, you can then turn on the water supply and test the function of the valve. This will allow you to make sure that it is working correctly and that it is preventing any possible condensation or water leakage.Installing a new toilet is the most drastic option. However, if you have an older toilet on its way out anyway, this might be the solution for you. The combination of warm air and cold tank surfaces results in condensation that may cause the tank to sweat. To reduce the amount of condensation, you can wrap the tank with insulation or use a tank cover, both of which will help to keep the surface of the tank warmer than the surrounding air, thus reducing condensation. How do I stop condensation on my toilet in the winter? Measurements - Before you think about buying anything, you'll need to gain knowledge of the important measurements. The rough in size is one. Determine the best location for the mixing valve and shut off the water to the hot and cold water supply lines. Cut the line and insert the pipe into the outlet port of the valve. Mark where you need to cut the other end of the cold water line and determine the placement of the Tee for the hot water line. Install an antisweat valve in the water-supply line leading to the toilet. An anti-sweat valve adds a little hot water to the toilet water line, which raises the water temperature in the toilet enough to warm up the tank and bowl. That’s all it takes to keep condensation from forming, even in the most sultry weather.

Once You may need to reset your float valve if you have the older type of cistern (see our cisterns and tanks project) because the cistern will now hold a little less water. If you don’t want to deal with expensive repairs caused by that sweaty toilet, you’re going to need to call a plumber in Toronto. You’ll want one experienced in making plumbing repairs in Toronto. The warmer the air, the more moisture it can hold and as bathrooms tend to be quite warm and humid places, this can be quite a lot. Couple this with the fact that toilet cisterns are filled with cold water, this creates ideal conditions for condensation to form.An anti-sweat valve preheats the water flowing to your toilet tank, therefore, preventing the toilet from sweating. It is installed behind your toilet and connected to the water supply line. Method 2 takes up a lot less room but is not quite so effective. It is however, considerably more attractive! The tubes in the image are called pipe snaps and they are pre-curled strips of plastic which can be cut to length easily as shown in the video. They simply clip over the pipe and make it just a touch warmer and less prone to condensation
