The wax, a mix of mineral oil and paraffin wax is coloured in contrast to the water to create a vivid display. Works exactly as it should…it needs several hours running the first time so the wax warms up and it gets going smoothly, but once it does it is just mesmerizing! The heavy base is tip-resistant, and a convenient foot switch for easy on/off control makes this lamp safe and practical. It's sent empty with needed chemicals that must be added to a distilled water to produce the awesome blue lava effect.

NASA explores the unknown in air and space, innovates for the benefit of humanity, and inspires the world through discovery. But chorus waves are not sound waves – instead, they move through plasma, the electrified gas that makes up over 99% of the observable matter in space. With fake fish and translucent balls, this lamp is a great sensory addition to a waiting room, kids’ playroom, or classroom. A few minutes of self-assembly are required, fitting the base fins requiring a certain amount of dexterity, and the gratification is not instant – the wax does take a time to warm up to operating temperature – but the result is very pleasing. The heat from the bulb makes the wax warm and less dense and so it rises in the water and, as it cools it falls. Its brushed aluminum finish complements glass and metal furnishings, so try coordinating it with a contemporary glass top coffee table or metal bookshelf with tempered glass shelves. The moving light looks exceptionally beautiful thanks to the colors it introduces exotic atmosphere to the decor.

This lamp is 27” tall and plugs into a standard household electrical outlet, making it perfect for the home, bedroom, office, or dorm.Lava lamps are not really capable of casting huge amounts of night to illuminate a room, more they are used as accent lighting. The vibrant red "lava" flows and bubbles through the clear liquid, casting a soothing and calming aura that's ideal for winding down after a bustling day. The mesmerizing motion of the molten wax inside the glass globe will captivate and illuminate your room. The LAMP mission is an international collaboration with contributions from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Dartmouth College, University of New Hampshire, and University of Iowa, and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, Tohoku University, Nagoya University, and Kyutech in Japan. Although, now that I think about it, those were probably unlicensed because it was spelled NASSA and I’m pretty sure that was Star Trek’s United Federation of Planets logo.

For pulsating aurora, the going theory points to chorus waves, so named because they were first detected as audio signals in radio receivers during World War I. This fantastic and extremely elegant floor lamp is a combination of functionality and amazing illumination. The retro-inspired lamp design makes it a statement piece, so keep the surrounding decor simple and understated.A plush rug or faux fur throw pillow in shades of pink or purple will add warmth and texture to the room. The lamp’s hand-blown glass is temperature-resistant, and the energy-efficient light bulbs can last up to 20,000 hours.
